I have been creating mixed media bottle art for many years and I so enjoy collecting and embellishing bottles of all different sizes and shapes.
For me, each kind of bottle represents an opportunity to create a totally different story which is why I wanted to teach this class by demonstrating different bottle shapes.
The projects taught in this class are inspired by my idea of creating devotional bottles which are intended to help students imagine different approaches based on your own unique faith or belief system. Approaching your bottle work as opportunity to tell a story, to cherish a memory or afformation, makes this art exciting and meaningful. The personal interpretations which I encourage leaves room for each individual's work to be less contrived and more spontaneous and personal.
We will go step by step, applying paper, fabric and stenciling to our surfaces. You will also learn how to create a decorative bottle top in place of a cork, and you'll learn how to install a secret prayer or message inside of your bottle which can be opened at any time.
We will also explore bead work, wire work, easy face cab embellishment, found object embellishments and methods for hanging your bottles.
Represented works will be The Laughing Buddha, Celestial Choir, and an Interpretive Bottle.
